Why Brittany is one of Hotel Hell’s most underrated managers

Brittany from Hotel Hell’s Cambridge Hotel’s exceptional managerial skills and on-camera sass has made her one of the show’s best managers.

If you are a longtime fans of Gordon Ramsay’s business-rescue series, Hotel Hell (or any of his other business-rescue-type shows, for that matter), then the chances are good that you mostly tune in to watch incompetent and arrogant hotel owners squirm under the not-so thinly veiled criticisms of this notoriously sharp-tongued celebrity chef.

There is usually enough wrong with the food, the décor, and the rooms in each episode to give Ramsay ample firing power for his cutting one-liners.

But the show sometimes graces us with one particularly honest staff member who just kicks things up to a new level.

Why Brittany was one of the best parts about this episode

In the “Cambridge Hotel” episode from Hotel Hell’s first season, this shining star staff member was the hotel’s General Manager, Brittany Thomas.

Brittany opened her appearance on the show with an exasperated “If Gordon Ramsay can’t fix us, who the hell else can?”

She even launched a successful ladies night event towards the end of Ramsay’s visit that helped to raise $1,400 in just one sitting.

However, amidst all of that, Brittany still had time to express her seemingly genuine concern about Ramsay making light of the hotel’s ghosts and to nod along when Ramsay told John that he was the real issue in the business – which is what really made her so entertaining to watch.

And while Brittany has kept her personal life pretty low-profile after the Cambridge Hotel’s quick closure, we hope that her seemingly excellent managerial skills have set her on the path to success in the last decade.

What happened at the Cambridge Hotel after Ramsay left?

Brittany and the rest of the team at the Cambridge Hotel, including the micro-managing John, seemed to have come around at the end of this episode and seemed ready to make the Cambridge Hotel a success.

But apparently the bank had other plans, and the hotel was sadly placed under foreclosure before the episode could even air.

This rather confusion timeline of events can be summarized as follows:

Date Event
January 25 to 28, 2012 Gordon Ramsay and the Hotel Hell film crew arrive in Cambridge, New York to start filming
June 17, 2012 The Cambridge Hotel’s last open day before it was placed in foreclosure
August 20, 2012 The “Cambridge Hotel” Hotel Hell episode premieres

As of 2023, the old Cambridge Hotel location is no longer operating as a traditional hotel, but as an assisted living facility.

Brittany was prepared for the Hotel Hell experience

Whilst Hotel Hell may be fun to watch from the comfort of your own home, the experience is not always as fun on the other side of the camera lens.

In fact, between the build-up to Ramsay’s visit, the construction and the long days of filming, many former Hotel Hell participants have found the experience quite overwhelming.

In fact, John and Tina Hough (whose hotel, The Roosevelt Inn, was also featured in the first season of Hotel Hell) shared that their experience filming for the series gave them “a whole new take on reality TV”.

Fortunately though, it seems like Brittany was well prepared for the Hotel Hell filming experience, as she shared with the Bennington Banner in 2012 that the show’s production team had told her to “expect a whirlwind”.

What happened to Brittany after Ramsay’s visit?

There has not been any real update about Brittany’s life after the Cambridge Hotel closed down in 2012 yet.

However, Jerry P. Papandrea (derryX), a blogger who visited the Cambridge Hotel during the ‘whirlwind’ Hotel Hell makeover, did confirm that Brittany remained at the Cambridge Hotel even after the cameras stopped rolling.

According to Jerry’s blog post, he had enquired about the manufacturer of the $75,000 worth of linen that Ramsay had brought in during his makeover, and Brittany actually got back to him “weeks later” with specific model numbers for what he was looking for.

What happened to the rest of the Cambridge Hotel’s staff?

Much like Brittany, not much information is out there about what happened to the other Cambridge Hotel staff members after the hotel closed down.

Scooter (who you may remember as the young prep cook, who Ramsay promised to support in his culinary journey) did take the celebrity chef up on his promise and enrolled in a culinary arts program whilst working a few other part-time kitchen jobs.

And we expect that many of the hotel’s other staff members also moved on to other jobs in the hospitality industry following the Cambridge Hotel’s closure.
