Snakes in the City’s Simon is not dead – despite his rather risky occupation

While Simon has had his fair share of close encounters over the years, this fan-favourite snake-catcher is still alive (and passionate about reptile education).

Snakes in the City’s star, Simon Paul Keys, spends his life surrounded by some of the most dangerous animals on the planet. But he is still alive and kicking, despite this risky lifestyle.

Snakes in the City’s Simon is not dead – despite his rather risky occupation

If you have tuned into National Geographic within  the last decade, chances are that you have stumbled upon Simon Paul Keys and his Snakes in the City (also known as Snake City) team, as they are in the midst of wrangling one of these scaly reptiles.

But while Simon’s job and various snake-related hobbies often force him into tight quarters with some of the most dangerous snakes on the planet – this reality television star is not dead, and he is continuing his mission, which is to educate the general public about this often-misunderstood side of the animal kingdom.

Simon has been bitten quite a few times

The introduction to the most recent season of Snakes in the City confidently states that when humans and snakes cross paths, both are at risk.

And while Simon and the rest of the Snakes in the City team’s mission is to mitigate this risk as much as they can – they often need to put themselves in harm’s way to do this.

Simon and the rest of the team have been bitten, hissed at and even struck by a wide array of scaly serpents through the years.

Simon even shared that he came dangerously close to losing it all after he was bitten by a Copperhead snake and experienced “excruciating pain” due to a lack of available anti-venom a few years ago.

Simon and Siouxsie’s dangerous hobby

Simon and Siouxsie’s face-to-face encounters with the world’s most-feared snakes do not end when they clock out for the day, as this couple also has a “Secret Sanctuary” filled with more than 80 snakes in their home in Dunstable, England.

Some of the snakes housed in this sanctuary include Western Diamondback Rattlesnakes, a Malayan Viper and even Reticulated Pythons. The sanctuary also includes numerous other animals which would make most people’s skin crawl.

Will Simon return for another season of Snakes in the City?

While Simon and the rest of the Snakes in the City team all still seem to be in tip top, snake-catching shape, National Geographic has not yet announced any official plans for the show’s next season.

But since it has only been a few months since Snakes in the City season 9 premiered, there is still hope that Simon and the team will soon return for another season of daring snake (and human) rescues.
