Although Texas Meal has not yet officially been renewed, the show has also not been cancelled.
Bill Carlton and the rest of the team at Ekstensive Metal Works’ history actually began way before the show started filming.
Although the sixth season of the show has only just finished airing, Texas Metal has not been cancelled and it seems like things are already moving in terms of the filming for the seventh season.
The history of Texas Metal
Like all the best reality television shows, Texas Metal is based on the real work and goings-on that happen at the Ekstensive Metal Works shop in Houston, Texas.
The Ekstensive Metal Works team has certainly learned how to make their impressive builds look more appealing and entertaining for the cameras throughout the last six seasons of the show.
But this team has been operating in the custom automotive business since 1994, when Bill Carlton first founded the business.
This real-life background in custom design is really what has made Texas Metal such a fan-favorite and what has given Ekstensive Metal Works its stellar reputation on and off the screen.
Why was Texas Metal cancelled?
Every new season of Texas Metal brings with it a whole new lineup of creative and over-the top restorations and custom builds.
Fortunately, fans have been able to follow along from home as the team at Ekstensive Metal Works builds everything ranging from mobile barbeque pits to restored classics and updated roadsters, for well over six years at this point.
While it might all seem like a blur for longtime watchers of the show, the finale of the most recent sixth season of Texas Metal only finished airing a few months ago, on January 18, 2023.
\This means that it is way too early to know for sure if and when the show will be returning for its seventh season.
However, if you have heard any rumors floating around that the show was cancelled, they are most likely false.
Although MotorTrend has not officially renewed Texas Metal for another season yet, the show’s renewal is really just a formality at this point.
We know this because the sixth season finale did not make any mention of the show coming to an end.
In fact, they all-but dared fans to come back for the seventh season by teasing glimpses of an exciting ’37 Bugatti Type 57 build that John Cena had dropped off at the shop.
The Ekstensive Metal Works Instagram page further confirms that the wheels for this season have already been set in motion, with the “All New Season 7 in the works”-line which is displayed on the page’s bio.
Other places to watch the Ekstensive Metal Works team
While Texas Metal season seven is clearly already being filmed, there is really no telling when this season will start airing.
If you need another show to fill the time until Texas Metal’s season 7 premieres, you might want to look into the show’s spin-off series called “Texas Metal’s Loud and Lifted”.
This series does not follow the team at Ekstensive Metal Works as closely as the original does.
But it does follow several other shops in Texas which are looking to build custom trucks that can rival those produced by Bill Carlton and the rest of the Texas Metal team.
Where to catch up on the previous seasons of Texas Metal
Of course, you can also fill the time between now and the season seven premiere by recapping all of the larger-than-life builds which have been showcased on Texas Metal in the previous six seasons.
As some of MotorTrend’s top-performing shows, all the episodes of both Texas Metal and Texas Metal’s Loud and Lifted can be streamed on the MotorTrend+ subscription-based platform.
If you do not have an active MotorTrend subscription, you can also access Texas Metal on platforms like Amazon Prime Video, Google Play, Apple TV, fuboTV and Vudu.
What to expect for the seventh season
Neither the Ekstensive Metal Works team nor MotorTrend have released any official details about what fans can expect for this upcoming season. However, that does not mean that we cannot make a few educated guesses.
Unfortunately, it seems like some of the cast members will not be returning for this seventh season.
While Bill Carlton will likely be around for as long as the show airs, Tim Donelson and John Villarreal-Vega have left the shop and they will not return for the next season.
But if the show keeps with its one-season-per-year pattern, it is likely that this season may start airing as early as the second half of 2024.
