It is likely that we will never get to see the McGraths’ home renovations play out on Fixer to Fabulous – for legal reasons.
Like many of the stars who appear on HGTV’s various home renovation and construction programs, the hosts of Fixer to Fabulous run many successful businesses outside of this hit television show.
In the case of Jenny and Dave Marrs, they film for their show whilst also creating and designing other spaces through their Marrs Developing Company.
According to the Marrs Developing website, the Marrses have built approximately 30 homes a year through their ventures, since back in 2004 (which adds up to over 570 homes as of the beginning of 2024).
It should not take you too long to realize that there is just no way that the Marrses have time to feature all of these projects on their show (which only had about 56 episodes by the end of its fourth season).
However, we have the sneaking suspicion that Matthew and Sarah McGrath’s home will never make it on to Fixer to Fabulous, though for an entirely different reason.
The McGrath’s Fixer to Fabulous lawsuit
The McGraths actually sued Jenny and Dave through their companies, Marrs Construction and Jupiter Rentals in February of 2023 on claims that the contracts into which they entered with the defendants in 2022 were later breached.
The McGraths reportedly claim that not only did the home which they purchased have “serious defects in its construction”, but the Marrses also failed to do the repairs and upgrades that they had agreed upon in an addendum to their initial contract, which was added later on.
And, given the severity of these claims (and probably the legal advice to refrain from commenting on the case until a final decision is reached), Dave, Jenny and the higher-ups at HGTV will likely try their best to avoid drawing any more attention to this case, regardless of what the final verdict turns out to be.
Everything we know about the McGraths’ home
Even though we will likely never get to see the McGraths’ home featured on Fixer to Fabulous, heavy.com has rounded up a few insider details about the size and design of this now infamous Marrs Construction home.
The home’s details are as follows:
Detail | Description |
Purchase price | $559,000 (with an additional down-payment of $15,000) |
Year built | 2022 |
Size | 2650 square feet (0.38 acre lot) |
Design | Three bedrooms, three baths and a three-car garage |
According to this realtor.com listing for the McGraths’ property, this two-story home also has central heating and cooling, an open floor plan, an office, a recreation room, a wet bar and a kitchen with custom green cabinets.
What the McGraths’ lawsuit alleges
The McGraths have brought multiple claims against the Marrses’ companies, but it seems like the main issue at hand is that the Marrses never returned to the home to complete the upgrades, which they had promised the McGraths they would do after they closed on the home.
The McGraths allege that they paid an additional $10,000 for these planned upgrades.
These were supposed to include things like the continuation of the upstairs hardwood floors, the installation of a new kitchen sink, the addition of stairs and a railing to the outside deck and the addition of windows in the garage – but these updates were never completed in full.
When will this lawsuit be over?
It has now been almost a year since the McGraths first filed the lawsuit which implicated the Marrses’ two companies.
And while the Marrses just recently reached a settlement in a different legal battle with the Environmental Protection Agency (the Fixer to Fabulous hosts agreed to pay out $35,000 in fines), it seems they will find themselves back in court sooner, rather than later.
The judge presiding over the McGraths’ case has already ordered that both the McGraths and the Marrses will have to return to court in September 2024 for a scheduled five-day jury trial.
This is because they failed to reach an agreement during their mediation sessions in 2023.
The homes you will get to see on season five of Fixer to Fabulous
Fortunately, Fixer to Fabulous fans have not been left hanging in the build-up to this late-2024 trial date, as Jenny and Dave Marrs have already been hard at work filming for the show’s brand-new fifth season.
Season five of Fixer to Fabulous will air over the course of 16 episodes, with new clients being featured in every episode.
This includes a family in need of a horse ranch renovation, a peaceful lakeside retreat, a quaint English-style cottage for first-time home buyers and many more.
