It seems like Mystery at Blind Frog Ranch season three has ended one episode too soon, after filming delays early on.
Long-time fans will know that Discovery’s new-ish foray into the treasure-hunting slash supernatural-investigation of the Ollingers’ oh-so mysterious Uintah Basin property, has evolved from a fairly humble family drilling operation into a multi-layered search for Aztec gold over the years.
And while there was some uncertainty about whether Duane, Chad, Charlie and the rest of the team would even be returning to our screens after the show’s nail-biting second season, Mystery at Blind Frog Ranch made a somewhat miraculous and sudden return near the end of 2023.
However, even though Mystery at Blind Frog Ranch fans have welcomed the show’s third season with open arms – it seems like this season has now ended just as quickly as it started.

Why season 3 ended with episode 8
Now, more than three years into it, Mystery at Blind Frog Ranch fans have become accustomed to always feeling like they are just a few seconds behind the full story.
However, Duane’s, Chad’s and the rest of the team’s announcement that season three would be concluding with the eighth “Into the Cavern” episode on January 3, 2024, was so unexpected that it even shocked one of the show’s newest consulting experts, Ryan Skinner.
Fortunately, in true “don’t shoot the messenger”-fashion, the team took to the Blind Frog Ranch Outpost & Tours Facebook page to explain why season three was ending earlier than expected.
According to the Blind Frog Ranch team, the seemingly never-ending Warner Bros. Discovery merger, as well as the particularly brutal 2023 Uintah winter, both contributed to the show’s delayed start.

What happened to season 3 episode 9?
There is no doubt that tuning in to watch the finale of a season that brought us quantum imagining, mysterious flooding, gold bars, meteorites, ancient beads and more – only to find the team trying to rescue an excavator for most of episode eight, was disappointing. But it seems like this may have been out of the Blind Frog Ranch team’s control.
In fact, Skinner actually mentioned that the original finale episode, episode nine, contained some “pretty exciting stuff” in a video that he posted just before Christmas.
However, with all of the uncertainty around the season three finale, it seems like this “especially” exciting episode might have vanished into thin air.
How season 3 ended
It turns out that missing out on a crucial (and planned) finale episode, is a lot like having a series cancelled out of the blue.
Although season three’s episode eight did have some exciting moments, including new mentions of the rare iridium, the discovery of a new cave and even the return of the geologist, Eric Drummond.
Unfortunately, and perhaps most frustratingly of all, the last few minutes of this finale episode saw the team finally finding an entrance to the ever-elusive cavern system, only for the episode to end before they could really start exploring any of it.
Will there be a Mystery at Blind Frog Ranch season 4?
As part of the explanation for season three’s sudden ending, the Mystery at Blind Frog Ranch team did note that “the BFR story is not over!!” and that future announcements about the show would be coming from Discovery Channel directly.
However, with all of the complaints that this lackluster season three finale has been getting online, the future of the show seems to be on shaky ground.
And if we are being completely honest with ourselves, the future of any show which Discovery did not deem important enough to air its entire (already-filmed) season, does not seem very promising.
Unfortunately, it seems like the team may have come to the same conclusion, as they recently encouraged fans to tell Discovery just how much the show means to them.
