Autumn Joi has not explained exactly why she left WHUR, but she has since decided to expand her AutumnJoi Live Show brand.

The radio is still a popular form of entertainment and often times, the hosts are what truly make a show successful.

Autumn Joi certainly helped to make “Live Squad Show” what it is today. Sadly, though, she has decided to leave WHUR to focus on her personal brand and all of her other business ventures.

Why radio hosts are so important

Radio may not always be the first medium that you think of when you think of your daily entertainment.

But for many people that get stuck in traffic during their daily commute or even people who spend most of their days in public spaces, their favorite radio shows, as well as their music, stories and presenters, are an essential part of their daily routines.

And if you have been listening to a particular station for long enough, you will also know that radio hosts can really make or break the entire show.

Why did Autumn Joi leave WHUR?

This is exactly what has been the case at Howard University’s Adult R&B WHUR-FM (96.3).

Here, veteran emcee and Prince George’s County Maryland native, Autumn Joi, had been entertaining listeners on “Live Squad Show” for almost three years, after  signing on in 2020.

By the time that Joi had joined WHUR, she already had 10 years of experience in the industry and had gained a reputation for being a vibrant and entertaining on-air personality who had become a fan-favorite among the locals in the area.

During a recent interview with the FOX 5 LION Lunch Hour ladies, Marissa Mitchell admitted that Joi’s show had really become a part of her “daily routine” while she was at WHUR.

Even though Joi had managed to make such an impact on WHUR’s fans, she announced via an April 24, 2023 Instagram post, that she was officially parting ways with WHUR.

Joi did not go into much detail about why she was leaving the show. Though she did detail her future plans and thank everyone that had been by her side throughout the journey.

Moreover, WHUR has also not put out an official statement as to why the radio station has parted ways with its former midday host.

Fortunately, it does not seem like there is any bad blood between Joi and the executives at WHUR.

And after her departure from the show, Joi has continued to build her personal brand and WHUR has even introduced a new host for their midday show.

Who replaced Autumn Joi as the midday show host?

Sunni Puric, whose voice you may recognize from her previous stint at WPGC-FM (95.5) officially joined the WHUR lineup as the new host of the station’s midday show on June 8, 2023.

WHUR’s Director of Programming and Operations, Al Payne, explained that they had searched far and wide for a talented host to take over this popular slot and that Puric was a “great” fit for the station.

Puric took to her Instagram to announce this move, stating that she just could not “find the words to describe just how humbled and honored” she was to be joining the station.

The current WHUR daily lineup

Although there have been a lot of changes at WHUR recently, things have now settled down. So the new daily lineup that you can incorporate into your routine is as follows:

  • The Steve Harvey Morning Show at 6 a.m.
  • The Sunni and the City show at 10 a.m. (which has now replaced the “Live Squad Show”)
  • The Frank Ski with Nina Brown show at 3 p.m.
  • The Daily Drum with Harold Fisher show at 7 p.m.
  • The Original Quiet Storm show with John Monds from 7:30 p.m. to midnight

What is Autumn Joi doing now?

Joi has certainly not let her departure from WHUR slow her down at all. In fact, by the time that Joi had posted her announcement, she already had a number of projects lined up. As she puts it, she is “one tough cookie and favored by God.”

Of course, Joi has continued to host and emcee a large variety of events since she left the show. But she was also one of the VIPs at the 2023 ‘Radio Run’ event, where she shared her now infamous “P.R.E.P.P” method for success.

Joi has even decided to take the AutumnJoi Live Show on the road, not to mention the fact that she is also hosting a podcast version of the show. Furthermore, Joi will be launching an ‘Autumn Joi Live Squad’ clothing line very soon.
