Sarah McDonald has only appeared briefly in the newest season of Port Protection Alaska, but it seems like her run as a television star may already be over.
Port Protection is a very remote, quaint community in the Prince of Wales area in Alaska. According to the most recent census data, this community contains less than 40 people.
Troy and Sarah’s Port Protection Alaska love story
And while an off-the-grid life far away from everything – and everyone – may seem idyllic at first, many Port Protection Alaska residents will be quick to tell you that loneliness can sneak up on you in this part of the Alaskan wilderness.
This includes the fairly new addition to the Port Protection Alaska cast, Troy Brockwell, who only recently convinced his girlfriend, Sarah, to move to the area.
Sarah’s run on Port Protection Alaska
Troy has been a beloved part of the Port Protection Alaska family ever since he first joined Sam for a dive, back in the seventh season of the show (which aired in 2022).
But his new love, Sarah, is fairly new to life in Port Protection – and, new to life as one of the Port Protection Alaska stars.
All in all, she has only made a few brief appearances during the most recent season of the show. This season can be summarized as follows:
Port Protection Alaska season 9 |

Episode 2 | “Packing Heat” | March 13, 2024 |
Episode 3 | “Still Icy” | March 19, 2024 |
Episode 4 | “Tree of Death” | March 26, 2024 |

Episode 9 | “Rhode Hard and Put Away Wet” | April 30, 2024 |
Episode 10 | “Don’t Look Back” | May 7, 2024 |
Although this season aired quite recently in 2024, it was actually filmed quite a while ago, in 2023. This means that it has been almost a year (in real life) since Sarah first moved out to join Troy in Port Protection.
It looks like Troy and Sarah may have left Port Protection
Since we are currently between Port Protection Alaska seasons, the only way to know what is going on in this remote part of the world is to rely on the rumors and speculation that have been circulating on the internet recently.
And one of the recent rumors that has gained quite a bit of traction online is the rumor that Troy and Sarah may have left Port Protection (and by extension, the show), for good.
According to the Port Protection Alaska grapevine, Troy and Sarah left Port Protection earlier this year to go on a little vacation to Europe.
However, it seems like the couple may have just had a change of heart during their vacation and decided not to return to Port Protection full time.
Troy’s old job as the designated Port Protection postmaster has also been listed as “open” on a few local forums. This serious step certainly adds some weight to what would otherwise be simply baseless internet-gossip.
Why did they leave Port Protection?
Troy has not updated his personal Facebook page since 2017. And neither Troy nor Sarah have even confirmed their move away from Port Protection yet.

Therefore, it is unlikely that we will ever get an official explanation of why they decided to leave. But that has not stopped the Port Protection fandom from speculating about the possible reasons.
Some fans have posited that Sarah may not have enjoyed the secluded, off-the-grid lifestyle. Others have insisted that Troy did not have what it takes to make a life in this remote part of the world.
But, in reality, it could have been any number (or combination) of reasons that led to this surprising and abrupt decision.
Will they be back to film another season?
At this point, there is still no official word on whether Troy and Sarah will ever officially return to Port Protection or Port Protection Alaska (since, there has not even been official word that they have left yet).
But since the next “season” of the show will consist of 10 episodes that were also filmed in 2023 – like the show’s most recent season – there is a good chance that Troy and Sarah will appear in a few future episodes.
Unfortunately, this update of what might be coming in Port Protection Alaska’s next season does come with one caveat, which is that the show has not been renewed. As a result, Port Protection Alaska season 10 will likely be the show’s very last season.
