It seems like Sara’s Kitchen Nightmares rollercoaster did not end after the first two La Galleria 33 episodes aired, as she was fired before Gordon Ramsay’s return.
It is certainly not a rare occurrence for the members of staff from Kitchen Nightmares’ various failing restaurants to divulge some unflattering truths to the celebrity chef, Gordon Ramsay, when he sits down for his first meal.
But very few servers in the history of the series have reached the level of brutal honesty delivered by Sara, the server at season five’s “La Galleria 33” episode.
Sadly, La Galleria 33 has become one of Kitchen Nightmares’ most shining examples of what happens to a restaurant when the owners cannot (or do not want to) take control.
During this episode, the restaurant’s server, Sara, inundates Ramsay with complaints about the restaurant’s management before he could even get to judging its food.
And things only ended up going from bad to worse when Lisa and Rita (the owners) turned the tables and confronted the staff about the liberties that they took while working at the restaurant.
Eventually, Sara, Lisa and Rita got involved in a fully-fledged screaming match, which eventually culminated in one of only a few on-screen Kitchen Nightmares firings.
Why there has been no update on Sara since the Kitchen Nightmares episode
Even though Sara ended up returning to La Galleria 33 before the end of this episode, it seems like the issues between her and the restaurant’s owners may have persisted.
When Ramsay visited La Galleria 33 the second time for the “Revisited No. 9” episode, which aired in 2017, Rita told Ramsay that she had done the “firing thing” to get rid of the “riff raff” at the restaurant after the first episode.
And though it is never explicitly stated, the fact that Sara was not shown during this episode confirms that she likely left (or, more likely, was asked to leave) in the year between the filming of these two episodes.
But although Sara certainly had a lot to say whilst the cameras were rolling, this former La Galleria 33 server has been fairly quiet after leaving the restaurant.
Sara has a private Instagram account, but aside from confirming that she now lives in Cary, North Carolina, there has not been any real update about what she has been up to since Lisa dismissed her.
La Galleria33’s Kitchen Nightmares timeline
All in all, La Galleria 33 did not have a bad run at all. In fact, the restaurant stayed open for over two years after Ramsay’s visit, as is shown below:
Date | Event |
May 2012 | Ramsay and the Kitchen Nightmares team arrive to start filming |
October 26, 2012 | The “La Galleria 33, Part 1” premieres |
November 2, 2012 | The “La Galleria 33, Part 2” premieres |
September 12, 2014 | The “Revisited No. 9” episode premieres |
November 2018 | La Galleria 33 closes its doors |
What happened after Gordon Ramsay’s La Galleria makeover
Lisa and Rita happily informed Ramsay that business at La Galleria 33 had improved by about 15 percent when he stopped by to film the “Revisited” episode.
Ramsay also found Doug, Lisa’s husband and La Galleria’s head chef at the time, to be in fairly high spirits upon his return, not to mention, there was a nearly-empty and clean freezer.
Overall, the restaurant seemed to be doing extremely well at this point, and Lisa and Rita even started adding home-made sorbet (and Rita’s home-brewed moonshine) to the menu.
Why La Galleria 33 closed down
Sadly, La Galleria 33 closed down about six years after Ramsay’s first visit. And although Lisa and Rita never put out an official statement explaining why La Galleria 33 closed, the restaurant’s reviews do provide some clarity.
La Galleria’s reviews continued to be a fairly mixed bag after Ramsay’s visits and the restaurant only had a 3.5 out of 5-star rating on Yelp when it closed.
Though it seems like Doug and Pat (the bus-boy and self-proclaimed manager) stayed with La Galleria 33 until its closure.
What happened to Lisa and Rita after La Galleria 33 closed
Both Lisa and Rita have kept a fairly low profile online after their brief reality television appearance, likely due to the stalker-incident which the two sisters told Ramsay about during his second visit to their restaurant.
However, these two sisters may not have been able to make La Galleria 33 a success, but there is no doubt that their charismatic personalities have probably served them well in whatever else they pursued after the restaurant’s closure.
One post from Lisa’s private Instagram account reveals that she and her sister are still close, though they no longer own and operate a restaurant together.
