Lone Star Law showed off the work of hundreds of Texas Game Wardens over the course of its eight seasons.

Lone Star Law is an Animal Planet show that officially premiered in 2016.

The series follows the Texas Game Wardens, an elite task force dedicated to protecting not only the state’s precious wildlife, but also the lives of its millions of citizens, who stretch out over more than a quarter of a million miles of varying terrains.

Lone Star Law’s impressive cast list

The daily tasks of the Texas Game Wardens featured on the show range from rescuing injured wildlife to intervening in large-scale smuggling and poaching operations, and everything in between.

Lone Star Law’s work documenting all of these cases proved to be so entertaining and informative  that the show ended up running for a total of eight seasons and aired about 125 episodes, when all was said and done.

Moreover, during this time, Lone Star Law’s cast grew to feature over 200 different members of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD).

And while many of the Game Wardens became fan-favorites during their short reality television appearances, it can be quite difficult to keep all of their names and counties straight after all these years.

The Lone Star Law cast members from the last season

While it would be nearly impossible to list all of the hundreds of Game Wardens who made an appearance in the series over the course of its eight seasons, it may be helpful to recap some of the dedicated TPWD professionals who helped to conclude the show in its final season.

These Lone Star Law season eight cast members include:

Chelsea Baily Calhoun County
Ben Baily Calhoun County
Kegan Gould Llano County
James Cummings Taylor County
Mallory Lindsey Lubbock
Morgan Inman Jasper County
Randolph McGee Fannin County

How Lone Star Law chose its cast

A 2023 story by Joann Garza-Mayberry for Charm East Texas states that there are as many as 500 field Game Wardens who patrol Texas’s many counties on any given day.

And while this is certainly good news for the wildlife and areas that they protect, it does bring up some questions about how exactly Lone Star Law narrowed its choice of Game Wardens down to just a few.

Fortunately, Patrick True (an Alamo City Game Warden who was featured in the first season of the show) actually revealed in his interview with My San Antonio, that most of the Game Wardens featured on the show actually volunteered for the position.

And like True, it is likely that they do so in the hope that it will give fans of the series a more well-rounded view of the work that the TPWD does on a daily basis.

Saying goodbye to one of Lone Star Law’s Game Wardens

Unfortunately, there is one member of the Lone Star Law cast of Game Wardens who will not return to the show, even if it is renewed for another season at some point in the future.

Sgt. Special Investigator Chris Wilson, who was one of the many faces that fans grew to know on the show over the years, sadly lost his battle with COVID-19 in August of 2021.

The TPWD did put out a statement at the time of his death, which read, “Sgt. Wilson proudly served Texas as a State Game Warden with great purpose, pride and dedication. His End of Watch leaves a hole in the hearts of many who knew him.”

Before thanking him for his service and extending condolences to his family. Sadly, this means that even if the show does return to our screens, it will never be the same.

Will the show ever return for another season?

Whenever a show like Lone Star Law disappears off the air after eight successful seasons, people are bound to have tons of questions about where the show went, why it is not airing anymore, and when (or if) it will ever return to television.

However, in the case of Lone Star Law, Ben Shank, who is the Chief Content Officer at Engel Entertainment (the production company behind shows like Lone Star Law and North Woods Law) recently confirmed in a November 2023 episode of the podcast, Warden’s Watch, that the show is, in his opinion, over.

According to Ben, the show was cancelled as part of a bigger plan to limit new cable content at Animal Planet.

And since the worlds of television and streaming have only gotten more competitive since 2022, it seems wholly unlikely that the series will return to television in the future.
