The Stalagmites in Blind Frog Ranch’s So-Called South Cave Are as Real as a Movie Set

Blind Frog Ranch’s props and gimmicks are getting tiresome and downright ridiculous.

If you thought they couldn’t top the green pond, the lone gold nugget in a cave, or the conveniently placed deer pelvis, think again.

Introducing… drumroll… stalagmites as real as the ice cubes in your refrigerator. After crawling into the supposed cavern near (or leading to) the, checks notes, Keyhole Chamber, Chad Ollinger and geologist Eric Drummond came upon some “stalagmites.”

Basically, these looked like ice sculptures you’d find in a winter holiday display.

To convince us these are legitimate stalagmites and not props, Eric Drummond, without a hint of irony, says, “Chad, look at these stalagmites, coming from groundwater percolating down and freezing.”

Forget everything you learned in geography class, or even what you might remember from visits to natural wonders like Lebanon’s Jeita Grotto, or the natural ice formations you see every winter.

Drummond assures us it’s real, saying, “Most caves have a year-round temperature of about 55-60 degrees Fahrenheit because they’re insulated from the surrounding weather. But this cave has frozen stalagmites, which indicates to me that there is both water and cold air coming in. So, we have an opening somewhere; it could be a lead.”

Again, who says this stuff?
