Mystery at Blind Frog Ranch season three has definitely been exciting so far, but sadly, it has fallen victim to all of the show’s same old tropes.
The third season of Mystery at Blind Frog Ranch officially started airing on November 15, 2023, and if this pattern holds, then the most recent fourth episode should mark the half-way point of this season.
And though there is still plenty of time for Duane, Chad, James and team to make another big discovery or to explain a brand new theory before the season runs its course, it is time to look back at everything that has happened so far.
Don’t shoot the messenger folks
Before we dive into the nitty-gritty of season three’s story so far, we have to admit that the Mystery at Blind Frog production team has definitely amped things up this time around.
So far, we have already watched Duane travel to Mexico, we have seen Chad fly a plane, we have seen explosions and we have even seen a few encounters with the claim-jumpers.
And regardless of your opinion on what is going on at Blind Frog Ranch, this certainly makes for very entertaining television.
However, once you remove the shiny veneer of Mystery at Blind Frog Ranch’s adventuring and treasure-hunting, it is quite obvious that season three is really just a repetition of all of the same issues that we have seen over and over again.
Not only has the series not really provided any new, tangible and compelling evidence, but it has not even returned to any of its old evidence.
Season three so far
For the purposes of this review, we will only be referring to the first four episodes of Mystery at Blind Frog Ranch’s third season, as follows:
Episode | Title |
Episode 1 | “$3 Billion Heist” |
Episode 2 | “Underground Tsunami” |
Episode 3 | “Aztec Evidence” |
Episode 4 | “The Mormon Wagon Trail” |
The prevailing issues
Unfortunately, season three of Mystery at Blind Frog Ranch has fallen into exactly the same pattern as all of the show’s previous seasons.
At least the series has now tried to cover up the fact that it will not be returning to any of the things that it has found thus far, with the ‘flooding’ of most of the tunnel system.
But this still does not make up for the fact that the box, the iridium, the toxic tunnel and so much more, has never been brought up again (or maybe this suggests that there is some truth the whole ‘black hole’ theory?).
Are they pushing for Chad to get his own show soon?
Chad has always been a central part of the Mystery at Blind Frog Ranch team.
And while we have not heard any rumors that he might be getting his own spin-off, there have been quite a few instances on this season when it seemed like Duane and the rest of the team were talking up Chad’s adventuring skills to the camera – for no apparent reason.
This includes the instance when Chad is forced to figure out how to work the horizontal drill, and then again a few minutes later when Duane told James about Chad’s experience as a former crop-duster pilot.
And, while these instances are admittedly pretty harmless, it just seems like the screen-time could have been better spent on something else.
The problem with this season’s finds
We will not even begin to touch the can of worms that is the ‘quantum imaging drone’ which Mystery at Blind Frog Ranch opened this season with, the doubts around this method do tie into one of the most glaring issues that we have with this most recent season: its lack of actual cross-checking.
Though it can be quite difficult to keep a clear head when the entire Mystery at Blind Frog Ranch team is excited about some new, “big” find, it is important to remember that most of the team does not have any real experience in archeology, geology or anthropology.
At this point, it is pertinent to remind you that the “pure gold” Mormon coins that Chad and Charlie found earlier in the series turned out to be mere reproductions.
And while it is easy for the team to brand the things that they find “Spanish coins” or “low-purity gold” on the spot, it has been a while since any of these “finds” have been authenticated or dated by an external source.
Thus, it seems like the team is just plowing ahead without actually taking the time to confirm their hunches.
And as a viewer, it almost feels like the series has given up on (at the very least) pretending that they are finding interesting or worthwhile artifacts.
