Kitchen Nightmares’ Amy and Samy Bouzaglo from Amy’s Baking Company are touted as the show’s most delusional couple after Ramsay gave up on intervening, however, the restaurant survived for years afterward.
Kitchen Nightmares is one of those shows from the 2000s that has managed to retain an active streaming market. This has affirmed the relevancy of the show almost a decade after its final season ended abruptly on the Fox network.
While there are many memorable episodes from the seven seasons of the culinary reality format show. Universally, the most touted episode from the entire run of the show is the feature of Amy’s Baking Company.
This featured what is now touted as one of reality television’s most delusional couples after Gordon Ramsay gave up on saving their business and subsequent survival in the years that followed.
What was the last episode of Kitchen Nightmares?
Kitchen Nightmares concluded its seven-season run with a 10-episode season. The last episode of the show was titled “Revisited”, and it aired on Friday, 14 September 2014.
As the name suggests, the episode featured Gordon Ramsay visiting some of the restaurants from the seventh and last season of the show.
The fact that Ramsay used the episode to visit restaurants from the season could have been indication that the show was ending, as in previous seasons, the first episode of the new season was reserved for visits of restaurants from the previous season.
Kitchen Nightmares: Amy and Samy from Amy’s Baking Company – the show’s most delusional couple
“Amy’s Baking Company” marked the final episode of season six. The episode aired on Friday, 13 May 2013, and it was the sixteenth episode of the season, which was the longest season from Kitchen Nightmares.
The episode featured married couple and business owners, Amy and Salomon “Samy” Bouzaglo. Samy had invested $1 million into the business.
Unlike most of the other calls for Gordon Ramsay and his team’s intervention, Amy and Samy called the show to counter the online narrative that was perpetuated about the business.
At the time of Ramsay’s visit, the owners were facing online harassment and they called Ramsay in to prove that the bad online reviews about the business were actually false.
However, it did not take long for Ramsay to figure out that the online reviews were more honest than was suggested.
Moreover, customers corroborated what was shared online, but Amy openly ignored and raged over reviews and criticism. All the while, Samy provided emotional and biased support to his wife.
The couple was not only biased in their support for each other, but the way they treated their staff further highlighted how the online reviews were not far off.
This is as only Amy could use the POS system and she was the only one in charge of preparing meals, which meant she prepared one meal at a time.
Moreover, Samy did not allow the staff to keep their tips, suggesting that they were not good enough to keep them yet.
Gordon Ramsay labels Amy and Samy Bouzaglo “nuts”
Gordon Ramsay on Kitchen Nightmares was the first to allude to delusion, which became one of the common terms used to refer to Amy and Samy Bouzaglo.
This happened when Ramsay was still investigating the problems of the restaurant and asked the couple whether they have children. They responded that they have cats, which they consider as their children.
Moreover, they asserted that they spoke to their cats as if they were actually human children. This led Ramsay to suggest that the couple was “nuts.”
How did Gordon Ramsay intervene with Amy’s Baking Company?
Amy and Samy Bouzaglo earned the title of the only restaurateurs on Kitchen Nightmares that Gordon Ramsay gave up on following how defensive Amy was about his criticism.
After his first day and his debriefing with the couple, he wished them well in their business and walked out.
Amy was quoted describing the event by stating, “I literally just wanted to die…” eight years after the ordeal. Moreover, Amy suggested that they had wanted to pull out from the show a day before Ramsay arrived, but it was too late to do so when he came.
Amy later asserted again that the way they were portrayed as combative and in denial was not who they were, but was only a narrative that the show settled on for ratings.
Is Amy’s Baking Company still open?
Amy’s Baking Company survived the bad press it received as a feature on Kitchen Nightmares for years before it closed in 2015.
The closure was due to problems with the landlord, but in 2013, the restaurant temporarily closed as a result of Amy’s alleged criminal record over social security.
Some fraud surfaced along with Samy’s immigration case after he failed to declare previous charges which included drug charges and trafficking.
Not much is known about what Samy is doing now. But Amy has become a social media pastry maker sharing her baking goods on her Instagram.
