Julian Designs creates wearable art inspired by South African artists

Julian Designs is a unique fashion label that aims to showcase paintings from South African artists as intricate ensembles for a high-end clientele.

Julian Designs is a fashion label that is showcased at the Art Eye Gallery in Pineslopes, Fourways. The designer, who boasts a wealth of knowledge and years of experience in the fashion industry, decided to take a step back from couture designing to venture into furniture in 2005.

This was until 2019, when he decided to return to fashion and create a unique label that also highlights the work of South African artists. The designer has created a collection of timeless pieces, using patterns from paintings he has noticed in the South African art space.

Julian creates and designs the pieces from his at-home studio in Illovo, where he invited Paulton to on Friday, 11 December 2020.

The designer gave insight into his initiative, which he says also gives income to the artists for each piece sold. The artists he works with include Trevor Coleman, Lionel Murcott, Thokozani Mthiyane, Kobus Walker and Toni Bico.

Each piece comes in elegant silhouettes, which are flattering for women of all ages. Julian explained that he has chosen to create pieces with clean lines and vibrant colours, as they are effortlessly timeless and can even be kept as collectible items.
