John Cena recently challenged the team at Texas Metal’s Ekstensive Metal Works with restoring his 1937 Bugatti.

The Ekstensive Metal Works shop has been around for even longer than the Texas Metal show, and it has built up quite the reputation for its impressive builds.

John Cena, a celebrity client, recently tasked the team with restoring and customizing his very coveted 1937 Bugatti, which will probably only be revealed next season.

Ekstensive Metal Works from then till now

If you have ever tuned in to watch an episode of Texas Metal you will likely know that Bill Carlton is a master welder with a keen eye for outlandish designs.

However, what you may not know is that the Ekstensive Metal Works shop existed long before the show ever started airing.

Carlton established Ekstensive Metal Works all the way back in 1994, but the grounds belonged to his father even before then.

In 2017, Texas Metal took this business to the small screen, and Carlton and the rest of the team have not looked back since.

John Cena’s Bugatti on Texas Metal

The Ekstensive Metal Works team had gained a reputation for their larger-than-life builds way before they started showcasing these builds on Texas Metal.

But the notoriety that the shop has gained since the show has started airing has certainly not been bad for business.

Ekstensive Metal Works reportedly cranks out anything between 25 and 30 different builds monthly and has now even added a few celebrities to their client list.

John Cena is one such celebrity, who can now actually be considered a regular at the Ekstensive Metal Works shop.

Most recently, this wrestler, presenter, actor and classic car enthusiast dropped by the Ekstensive Metal Works shop just in time for the season six finale episode, to drop off parts of a 1937 Bugatti.

Although Carlton and the rest of the Ekstensive Metal Works team have impressed Cena with some of their builds and restorations in the past, Carlton is quick to point out that they will certainly have their hands full with this challenge.

Instead of getting overwhelmed by the unfamiliar placements and looks of the parts in ’37 Bugatti, Carlton decides that their best course of action to turn this into one of their best builds yet, is to remove the car’s roof entirely.

Even though Cena seemed skeptical of this plan, he clearly trusts Carlton’s instinct and it seems like we will all just have to wait for the show to be renewed for another season to find out how this truly wild restoration will turn out.

The Ekstensive Metal Works team has built a car for John Cena before

Besides all of the other things that he is famous for, Cena has actually become quite well-known for his impressive car collection.

In 2021, Cena decided to expand his collection by adding a1969 MGC GT to it, which was restomodded by the Ekstensive Metal works team in season five of Texas Metal to the lineup.

Once it was finished, this GT retained its retro baby blue colors and classic lines, but it gained a bright orange American-made engine and new, upgraded suspension throughout.

This build managed to toe the line between vintage and modern design perfectly and frequently ranks among the fan-favorites from the show.

Why the 1937 Bugatti?

While it is not difficult to imagine why Cena chose Ekstensive Metal Works to do the 1937 Bugatti restoration after the GT project went so smoothly, you may be wondering what attracted Cena to the frankly incomplete shell of the car to begin with.

Cena explains in the season six finale that he has always been drawn to this model because of its signature lines and form. He says that he knows that it is still one of the most desirable classics on the market to this day.

Will Texas Metal be renewed for a seventh season?

The season finale of the most recent sixth season of Texas Metal only aired a few months ago, on May 10, 2023.

Hence, it is much too soon to have any real details about a possible seventh season yet. However, this does not mean that there is no hope.

Although MotorTrend has not officially announced that Texas Metal will be coming back for another season yet, the Texas Metal Instagram page does have “All new Season 7 in the works” in its bio, which seems to indicate that filming for this season is already well underway.

And considering the Ekstensive Metal Works team’s lighting fast building speed, we would even be willing to bet that Cena’s Bugatti project has already been wrapped up.
