Is Dr. Jeff: Rocky Mountain Vet coming back in 2024?

Dr. Jeff is busier than ever expanding the Planned Pethood clinic operations, but it seems unlikely that his show will return for another season in 2024.

Television show renewals are often more complicated than they seem on the surface. There are numerous factors that are taken into consideration to determine whether a show will be renewed for a new season or not.

Why a Dr. Jeff: Rocky Mountain Vet renewal seems so unlikely

The talented and outspoken Dr. Jeff and his dedicated team at the Planned Pethood Plus clinic have spent almost a decade now sharing their work on television.

But even though Dr. Jeff: Rocky Mountain Vet was once Animal Planet’s number one show, there has been no official update about if or when the show will return for another season.

And it does not seem like Dr. Jeff or his team are holding their breath for a 2024 renewal, just yet.

How long has it been since Dr. Jeff: Mountain Vet aired a new episode?

Dr. Jeff: Rocky Mountain Vet has now aired over 80 episodes in total, over the course of its first eight seasons, as follows:

Season Premiere date Finale date
Season 1 July 11, 2015 December 26, 2015
Season 2 April 16, 2016 July 9, 2016
Season 3 February 4, 2017 April 22, 2017
Season 4 September 30, 2017 December 2, 2017
Season 5 June 9, 2018 August 25, 2018
Season 6 May 18, 2019 June 13, 2020
Season 7 September 26, 2020 December 19, 2020
Season 8 March 26, 2022 September 25, 2022

While this is an incredibly impressive feat, a quick glance at the show’s past airing schedule does reveal that it has now been almost two years since any new episodes of Dr. Jeff: Rocky Mountain Vet aired.

And, unfortunately, a Dr. Jeff: Rocky Mountain Vet renewal seems all the more unlikely with every new month that passes by without an update about the show’s future.

It seems like there might be some trouble brewing behind the scenes

There have been many rumors which could explain why the Dr. Jeff: Rocky Mountain Vet team has not returned for another season of their popular show over the course of the last two years.

This includes rumors that other local vets got Dr. Jeff kicked off the air in a bid to bully him to increase his prices, or even some seriously misinformed speculation that Dr. Jeff passed away after season eight.

But while none of these rumors seem to have much truth to them, a recent 2023 interview with the Planned Pethood Plus clinic team may just give us some answers as to what prompted this team to take a break from their hit Animal Planet show.

Dr. Jeff’s daughter, Melody Obuobisa, shared with the Click’s Lilyeve Murphy Bagliani, that fans of the show would be “shocked” to see what the clinic really looks like when the cameras are not rolling.

The Planned Pethood team also shared that filming the show had become a distraction and that re-shoots and filming days had a tendency to create a backlog at the clinic.

And though they also explained that the show was a tremendous help when it came to securing donations and spreading the word about animal welfare, these other negative consequences might explain why we have not seen the team return to television for so long.

Dr. Jeff: Rocky Mountain Vet is not filming right now

What Dr. Jeff has been up to recently

Fortunately, it does not seem like Dr. Jeff has not slowed down at all since the filming of Dr. Jeff: Rocky Mountain Vet ceased.

According to what Dr. Jeff has been sharing on his personal Instagram page as of late, the break from filming has not only given him the chance to catch up with the backlog at the clinic, but also to spend more time travelling.

And a peek at some of his most recent posts reveals that when he is not involved in serious life-changing veterinary surgeries at the clinic, he can usually be found on a hike or at some idyllic vacation destination like Aruba.

The road forward

While it seems like Dr. Jeff: Rocky Mountain Vet will remain on ice for the foreseeable future, Dr. Jeff and his team still have big plans for the future.

Now that Dr. Jeff is approaching what most would consider to be well-past retirement-age, he has actually turned his gaze to the future of veterinary medicine.

Dr. Jeff, and his wife, Dr. Petra, have purchased a large farm near Conifer in Colorado, where they plan to expand the Planned Pethood clinic into an international hub and veterinary hospital which will also function as a state-of-the-art training center for young veterinarians and veterinary schools.
