Hotel Hell aired on Fox for three seasons between 2012 and 2016. In total, Hotel Hell featured about 20 different struggling, hotels, inns, motels and bed and breakfasts, which were all in dire need of a few updates.
Here’s what happened to The Roosevelt Inn after Hotel Hell
The Roosevelt Inn is perhaps one of the oldest buildings ever to be visited by Ramsay during the course of Hotel Hell and was first constructed in 1905 as an elementary school.
Ramsay visited this historic inn in Hotel Hell’s first season’s finale episode, which aired on September 3, 2012.
The Roosevelt Inn is an impressive property with a long history in the town of Coeur d’Alene in Idaho. It has 5 stories, with 14 different rooms and suites for guests to choose from.
During his visit, Ramsay found the newly-renovated ballroom disappointing, the rooms dusty and the murder mystery parties ineffective at garnering new business.
He also found John Hough, the innkeeper, to be entirely delusional about the state of the inn.
After Ramsay employed a few former guests and a black light in order to show John and his wife, Tina, what it was really like to stay at their inn, the owners were finally ready to implement some of the chef’s much-needed changes.
And the “The Roosevelt Inn” episode of Hotel Hell ended with an extremely successful one-of-a-kind wedding re-launch, which saw the inn fully booked for the first time in a long while.
It seems as though John and Tina really learned from their experience on the show, as The Roosevelt Inn is still up and running more than ten years after Ramsay’s initial Hotel Hell intervention.
What’s more, it now promises to give guests a bed and breakfast experience which is “as perfect and memorable as possible”.
Do John and Tina Hough still own The Roosevelt Inn?
Although The Roosevelt Inn has seemingly been doing well since the Hotel Hell episode aired, John and Tina Hough did put the property up for sale a few years ago.
The couple told the Coeur d’Alene Press in 2021 that they had closed a deal to sell the property for $3 million.
Unfortunately, this deal fell through just a few months later and the Houghs were subsequently forced to halt their retirement plans and their big move to Texas.
As of 2023, John and Tina are still listed as The Roosevelt Inn’s owners on the inn’s website.
Does The Roosevelt Inn still host murder mystery parties?
Though the Houghs wanted to sell The Roosevelt Inn until recently, they have not given up on running the establishment just yet.
Fans who tuned in to watch “The Roosevelt Inn” episode of Hotel Hell will know that John and Tina would frequently try to drum up interest in their establishment by hosting interactive murder mystery events, and it seems like this has not changed through the years.
The Roosevelt Inn’s Facebook page confirms that the murder mystery parties are still a fairly regular occurrence at the inn. In fact, these events can now even be arranged for private functions, upon request.
Recent reviews and awards for The Roosevelt Inn
Appearing on a show like Hotel Hell can often help struggling businesses to get just enough publicity to attract some new business.
However, this publicity is usually quite fleeting and not all of the businesses end up surviving years down the line.
However, The Roosevelt Inn seems to have kept up with the times and is still doing very well, more than a decade after the Hotel Hell episode first aired.
The inn is still getting a lot of positive reviews, and has earned an incredibly impressive 4.5 out of 5 rating on Trip Advisor and a 4.1 out of 5 star rating on Yelp.
This type of positive feedback from guests has also recently earned The Roosevelt Inn a 2023 KAYAK Travel Award.
