Even though it seems like Animal Planet will no longer be airing new episodes of the show moving forward, the Villalobos Rescue Center is continuing with their rescue and rehabilitation efforts, outside of the show.
The “Adoption Process” FAQ section on the Villalobos Rescue Center website reveals that the real-life adoption process is much more complicated and involved than it seems on the show.
Families who want to adopt a dog from this rescue center have to apply for adoption and then complete a thorough assessment so that the center can determine which of their dogs will be the best fit for that family and home.
The center also requires that you pay an adoption fee of $300 if you reside in New Orleans, or a travelling fee of between $500 and $1000 (in which case the adoption fee is waived) for out of state adoptions.
Why does the Villalobos Rescue Center have adoption fees?
The regular $300 fee that Villalobos Rescue Center charges for adoptions is used to cover the cost of getting the dog spayed or neutered, fully vaccinated, micro-chipped, and to remove any heartworms that the dog might have before it enters your home.
This fee also includes a free training session, which will be conducted once the dog has been introduced to your household.

You can expect to wait up to two weeks to hear back from the team once you have submitted your application.
And since this team no longer flies with their dogs, you may have to wait a couple of days for your new adoptee to get to you once the process has been finalized.
