Did Mystery at Blind Frog Ranch get cancelled?

Discovery has not cancelled or renewed Mystery at Blind Frog Ranch just yet, and the future of the show is still uncertain.

To the chagrin of most Mystery at Blind Frog Ranch fans, the final episode of the show’s most recent third season left us with a giant cliffhanger.

This was after the team finally managed to squeeze their way into finding a dry entrance to the property’s fabled cave system.

Is Mystery at Blind Frog Ranch returning for season 4?

However, the season’s closing credits started rolling before the team could find anything that could be useful to their treasure-finding expedition – and many fans are already wondering when they can expect to see Duane Chad, Charlie and the team return to their mission in a fourth season.

Unfortunately, Mystery at Blind Frog Ranch viewers now seemingly have a brand-new mystery to debate, as there has not been any official word on whether the show has been cancelled or renewed from Discovery just yet.

But, as every good treasure-hunter will know – this will not stop us from investigating the matter further.

Big changes for season 3

The most recent, third season of Mystery at Blind Frog Ranch has ushered in an entirely new era for the show. It not only boasted a brand new timeslot, but also a whole new panel of experts to aid the Ollingers in their investigations.

So far, this season sticks out like a nitrate-rick energy-zone, when compared to the first two seasons of the show, as follows:

Season Total episodes Timeslot Premiere air date Finale air date
Season 1 6 Fridays, at 10 p.m. January 1, 2021 February 5, 2021
Season 2 8 Fridays, at 10 p.m. January 7, 2022 March 4, 2022
Season 3 8 Wednesdays, at 10 p.m. November 15, 2023 January 3, 2024

But, while season three is certainly anomalous, these recent changes should not be too much cause for concern.

Networks consider many different variables when they are deciding which shows to renew and some of the other factors that may influence Mystery at Blind Frog Ranch’s pending renewal include the show’s ratings and viewership, its competition, and even the cast members’ availability.

Mystery at Blind Frog Ranch by the numbers

A show’s ratings and viewership numbers are always  important factors in determining whether it will be renewed or not. And at this stage, it seems like Mystery at Blind Frog Ranch is doing quite well.

When the series first premiered in January 2021, it was bringing in about 0,985 million viewers and had a 0,21 rating in the 18-49 demographic (via ShowBussDaily.com).

But by the time season two premiered, the show was bringing in 1,008 million viewers (with a 0.16 rating in the 18-49 demographic).

By the end of its second season, Mystery at Blind Frog Ranch, had cemented itself as one of Discovery’s most popular shows, and it brought in over 1,1 million viewers.

And if we believe what the team has said about the show’s season three ratings, which now stand at a reported 0,16 in the 18-49 demographic with 1,007 million viewers (reportedly landing it on the eighth spot across cable channels) – it seems like the show has really improved over the years.

Mystery at Blind Frog Ranch compared to other Discovery Channel shows

While Mystery at Blind Frog Ranch’s ratings and viewership may have steadily grown in the last few years, it is important to look at these numbers in the context of the entire channel.

And, in Mystery at Blind Frog Ranch’s case, this does explain why the Discovery Channel chose to push back the premiere of season three, and reportedly ended this season one episode short.

Mystery at Blind Frog Ranch season three may have been steadily bringing in millions of viewers, but its 1,007 million viewers does not really compare to the viewership of the Discovery Channel heavy-weights, such as Gold Rush (which had 1,681 million viewers as of 2022) or even Gold Rush: White Water (which reached 1,291 million viewers).

Will the Ollingers return for another season?

Season three of Mystery at Blind Frog Ranch has introduced an array of new cast members, ranging from quantum imaging experts to Uintah basin investigators. Though if we are being completely honest, there simply is no show without the Ollingers.

Fortunately, this fact seems to be counting in Mystery at Blind Frog Ranch’s favor at the moment, as the Ollingers continue to be all-in when it comes to tracking down that Aztec gold.

The Ollingers even recently went as far as encouraging fans to show their support for the show on Facebook, in a bid to show the network just how popular it has become.
