The team has finally found a gold bar on Blind Frog Ranch, but we still need to see if this leads to them finding more treasure.
Discovery’s newest treasure-hunting show, Mystery at Blind Frog Ranch, has now officially entered its third season on air.
And while it is always interesting to see what Duane Ollinger, his son, Chad Ollinger, and all-rounder, Charlie Snider get up to next in their big treasure-finding mission, we have to admit that it has been a while since the team found something tangible to get excited about.
Though, if you were one of the fans eagerly awaiting any news about season three of Mystery at Blind Frog Ranch (before its premiere on November 15, 2023), then you may have known to expect at least one big find in this most recent season.
How the team found the gold bar
But in case you missed it, the preview video that was shared for Mystery at Blind Frog Ranch season three teased (among many other tidbits about this season) that Chad would “finally get to hold gold” in his hand at some point during this season.
And now that episode three has officially aired, we finally have the full story.
If you have not watched this episode yet, we suggest that you finish it before you keep reading, as there are some major spoilers ahead.
But, if you have already watched all the way through the episode, you will already know that the team finally found their likely low-purity gold bar in the most unlikely of places – a secret cave-like structure hidden on the side of a rock face.
But since this glittering discovery happened just moments before the end-credits rolled, it seems like we will have to wait until next week Wednesday to find out what it all really means.
The experts that you have seen on Mystery at Blind Frog Ranch this season
Though the wait until next week’s episode may seem excruciating, season three has actually been moving much faster that the show’s first two seasons.
This may be partly due to the fact that the Ollingers are under increased pressure to try and find the rumored treasure before anyone else find it this season.
But it is also due to the fact that they have called in so many new experts to help them along the way.
After all, the team would have likely never found that vent or the key-hole formation if it was not for James Keenan, the new expert who joined the search in season three.
But Mystery at Blind Frog Ranch has introduced many new experts this season, including:
Name | Field |
Stephen Leeah | Quantum Imaging Expert |
James Keenan | Ancient Civilizations Expert |
Jack W. Peters | Explosives Expert |
Dr. Bob Morton | Material Scientist and X-ray Specialist |
This season’s leading theories
All in all, the findings of all these experts (and those of Eric Drummond, who has still not made an appearance in this season) have stirred up some pretty interesting theories.
For right now, it seems like Duane and the rest of the team have really bought into the theory that Blind Frog Ranch may be home to the head of Towats.
Towats is an ancient God that they suspect might be protecting the treasure that the Aztecs buried in the cave-system centuries ago.
But with the energy-zone flooded, the team has started travelling further up the key-hole formation that the quantum imaging revealed to try and find another way into the ever-elusive cave system.
Is it really gold?
While Chad and the rest of the team excitedly jumped on the bandwagon that they had finally found some sort of treasure on the property after years of looking, it may be safest to temper our excitement until some kind of expert can confirm that there is actual gold (albeit very low-purity gold) inside that bar.
After all, the so-called ‘pure gold’ Mormon coins that Chad and Charlie found in the first season turned out to be nothing more than simple reproduction.
What is this gold bar worth?
Obviously, we will not be able to determine the worth of the ‘gold’ bar until they have had an expert confirm what exactly the bar is made of and how heavy it is.
The fineness of a piece of gold is measured in karats, and the more densely a piece of gold is packed with this fine metal, the higher its karat rating is and the more it will be worth.
So if this bar really is low-purity gold like James suspects it is, the team may be looking at a value of about $2.00 USD per gram (for 1K, 4% gold) to over $24.00 USD per gram (for 9K, 38% gold).
