Hoarders’ most recent episode sees the team helping Destiny after a series of family tragedies forced her to take refuge in her filled-to-the-brim childhood home.
You may have missed it, but the long-time A&E guilty pleasure fan-favorite docuseries, Hoarders, has returned for a 15th season on television.
The world has certainly changed a lot since Hoarders started airing all the way back in 2009 – and so has our understanding of mental health troubles and the root causes of hoarding disorders.
What you missed of the “Destiny” episode
Before this most recent season of Hoarders hit our airways, the show’s resident therapist, Dr. Robin Zasio, reminded viewers of the show that while seeing the clean-up play out on our screens can be extremely satisfying, the show’s mission runs much deeper than a simple spring cleaning.
According to Zasio, it is important “to understand that these are human beings, we need to understand that they are coming from life circumstances that have severely or significantly or both impacted them that have led to some behaviors that are not functional” when you are watching the show.
And this has never been truer than in the fourth episode, in which the team rushes to help Destiny.
Destiny admits that she had “basically checked out of life” after tragedy struck her family in the form of a car crash in 2004, which claimed the lives of her sister and nephew.
Unfortunately, Destiny’s withdrawal into the safe confines of her extremely hoarded childhood home captured the attention of the landlord, who is threatening to evict her if she does not clean up her act.
Season 15 so far
The 15th season of Hoarders officially kicked off on January 8, 2024, with new episodes airing on subsequent Mondays in the show’s 8 p.m. Eastern Time or 7 p.m. Central Time timeslot.
And if you want to make sure that you have not missed even a second of the exciting makeovers in this new season thus far, all of the episodes which have aired to date can be summarized as follows:

Dorothy to the rescue
Long-time Hoarders fans will already know Dorothy Breininger, the show’s expert organizer and all-round support system.
Breininger has been helping the overwhelmed people who find themselves in need of help from the Hoarders team since the pilot episode aired back in 2009.
But, in this episode, Dorothy truly shines by helping Destiny to visualize just how bad her problem had gotten over the years and.
She then, once again, pulls off the seemingly impossible task of getting Destiny’s home all clean and organized over the course of just a few days.
A recent video posted on the Hoarders Facebook page even recounts the cathartic moment that Destiny decided to “check back” into her own life by taking the step to throw away a sugar canister which she had meant to get rid of for years.
A surprise ending
This “Destiny” episode has sadly reaffirmed something that most Hoarders fans have suspected for a long time – hoarding disorders can be genetically passed down.
But, while it was certainly heartbreaking to watch Destiny recount how her recently-deceased mother could just not bear to take out the trash after her father had passed away, one thing that we certainly did not see coming was the surprise ending of this episode.
Where most Hoarders episodes end with the person happily re-entering their now clean and organized home, Destiny made the surprising decision to move out of her childhood home so that she could start over in a brand-new place.
What you can expect for next week
If you enjoyed watching Destiny take back control of her life during this most recent Hoarders episode, then you will likely be absolutely thrilled to hear that Hoarders will be airing two brand-new “Where Are They Now” episodes next week.
And while we do not have many details about what exactly these new episodes will entail just yet, we do know that they will take a look back at some of the people that the Hoarders team has helped in the past.
Long-time fans of the show have been waiting years for another update on how some of the show’s fan-favorite stars have fared after the Hoarders team hit the road, and there is no doubt that these “Where Are They Now” episodes will be worth the watch.
These exciting episodes will be airing back-to-back on Monday, February 5, 2024 from 8 p.m. Eastern Time (7 p.m. Central Time).
